Poetry Friday: An Eco-Diary!!!

The Eco-Diary of Kiran Singer by Sue Ann Alderson and Millie Ballance is perfect for a Poetry Friday selection. Each page contains a different entry in Kiran's eco-diary (in poetry format), all based around the bog she and her grandmother take care of and advocate for. Bogs are often viewed as smelly, gross places filled with swampy water and bugs, but the authors, through Kiran's eyes, make bogs beautiful places, worth fighting for in today's world.

This selection is short and sweet, perfect for introducing reluctant middle grade readers to both poetry and environmentalism in a subtle format. The cover is pretty cool too, having been made to look like an actual diary cover. Overall, a very enjoyable book, quite educational in terms of bogs and their purpose/beauty, and quiet in it's message.
