Poetry Friday: Steady Hands

I love when books contain great contain AND awesome illustrations! Steady Hands is definitely one of those books that leaves you wanting to linger on the page, staring at the illustrations, trying to find out if you've absorbed it all!

Steady Hands: Poems About Work, by Tracie Vaughn Zimmer, illustrated by Megan Halsey and Sean Addy is a fabulous representation of a must-have poetry book. The concept is pretty simple, each poem being about a specific career field, with really neat illustrations as an accompaniment.

We read poems about mail carriers, exterminators, electricians, cafeteria cooks, ballet instructors, librarians, lifeguards, writers, and so many more. The poems are free-verse and very well-written, the "illustrations" done in multi-media with paintings, newspapers, real photographs, and line drawings all incorporated into very cool designs. I was verrry impressed with the illustrations.

A great choice for any library poetry collection!
